For Why?

He goes
from boy
to patient
in a
BLIP
of a second.

Rides past
on his bike

Arms outstretched.

Feeling the wind

Helmet on head.

But what's been protecting
keeping the mass
from
growing
inside?

I imagine

This boy.

His laughter.

His charm.

Wooing staff.

As they take his blond locks.

His smooth head.

As he champions
for the fight
of his life.

One
I know
he will
surely
win.

Because
He
Is
Michael.

  3. Not my son; very close friend of Ajers and neighbor had a brain tumor removed yesterday that they discovered on Saturday. Been a rough rollercoaster of a week. They got it all, but it's probably malignant, unless God gives us the five percent benign blessing!!!

  8. Steph, do you know about Caring Bridge? It's a sharing site for people with medical issues - allows the family to share news in one fell swoop - and people can respond with thoughts and prayers.

    God love the little guy.

  9. Kim, thank you--they are on Care pages and it has been very helpful to get immediate info and send messages!
We just returned from a beautiful and uplifting prayer service with about 100 people from our community.

  10. Praying for little Michael. Can you release the code to get on his care pages? Hopefully he will be in the 5% and he won't need carepages! Kind of ironic that you just met Mimi this weekend.....

  11. Hi Sue, thanks for the kind thoughts for Michael. I don't feel comfortable about sharing the care page. They are a very, very private family, but if everyone can just keep him in his prayers, I believe it will go a long way, and I will definitely share what I am POSITIVE will be good news when I hear it!

    THANK YOU!!!!

  16. It's everywhere. Six months ago I was basically untouched by cancer. I found Mimi thru Dawn. Then John Eric thru Mimi (his grandparents Bud and Geema live in my area and I saw the fundraiser posters and recognized the name as a Julian follower.) I ran into an old friend of mine right before Easter and her husband is preparing for hospice. Plus, several other blogs have recently posted about friends/relatives.

    I NEED SOME 5% LOVE!

That reminds me...time to go to and make my Relay for Life donation.

  21. I came across your blog one day and pop in every so often to see what is happening. I lost a nephew at 2 1/2 years old from a neuroblastoma (cancer) and your poem captured that stunning first few moments of grief and shock. Thank you for your beautiful words!
