Book: After You
Author: Julie Buxbaum
Winner: Books & Reviews Blogger
Website: Juliebuxbaum.com
I first found out about Julie Buxbaum because she was written up in Redbook for her first book, The Opposite of Love, which you might be confused with the book The Opposite of Me, by Sarah Pekkanen, both fabulous books, both NEITHER being featured right now. Hahah, what a tease am I! But I remember reading about The Opposite of Love in Redbook and immediately tearing out the page because it was a book I HAD TO HAVE. Crazy enough, a couple of days later, I GET AN EMAIL FROM THE AUTHOR, JULIE BUXBAUM, and I seriously freaked out!
How did she know me?!?!?!
Another author, Allison Winn Scotch, who, if you don’t already know her (HOW DO YOU NOT ALREADY KNOW ALLISON??), you will get to read about her later here too! … anyway, does it sound like I’m amped up on caffeine here? …
Allison and Julie are friends and Allison suggested Julie contact me because I was already doing reviews and giveaways on MaNiC MoMMY back then and so Julie emailed me.
And did I want to share her debut book with my readers?
YES!!
And it just so happened that Julie was going to be doing a reading near me and I had to come meet her, so long story still long, but I’m telling it anyway, I went to meet Julie, and then we went out to dinner and had a great time and since then Julie has written another fabulous book, had a beautiful baby, moved to London, and is writing her third book.
After You is about Ellie and Lucy’s friendship and how far one will go to take care of a loved one when tragedy strikes. It’s about Lucy’s precocious 8-year-old daughter and it’s about marriage, a murder and the lengths one will go to take care of a friend, putting all things aside that used to be important. It’s about stepping away from everything you’ve ever known to find out what it is you’re most meant to need.
Here’s what Amazon says of the book:
The complexities of a friendship. The unexplored doubts of a marriage. And the redemptive power of literature ... Julie Buxbaum, the acclaimed author of The Opposite of Love, delivers a haunting, gloriously written novel about love, family, and the secrets we hide from each other--and ourselves.
Read the FIRST CHAPTER HERE. And you can always check out Julie's blog at: Julie's Got Writer's Blog. Yes, this is my subtle way of getting Julie back to blogging! : )
