To win Caprice’s With A Little Luck, tell me something superstitious that you believe in or that you act upon. For me, I am partial to even numbers. Odd numbers in anything just tend to creep me out. Doesn’t matter what it is – seats on an airplane, putting in a time on the microwave, paying for something. If it’s an even number, I always feel like I’m luckier. All three of my kids were born on even days of the month, so that makes me feel lucky. See, totally weird, right!

I always do the spilled salt tossed over the left shoulder thing. I like the itchy palm means money coming your way if you put it in your pocket! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge hockey fan. One season my sister-in-law (also a huge fan) for some reason was missing alot of games but if she happened to catch one they seemed to lose. Anytime I watched a game and they were losing I would call her and tell her to turn the channel.
ReplyDeleteI do the salt over the shoulder thing too. I can't think of anything else right now which is funny, because I would normally say I have a lot of superstitious quirks. Have I ditched them all in my pessimistic jobless state? uh oh, better go rub a penny!

Wow - I can't believe you have the same superstition with even numbers that I do - I feel even numbered years are always better than odd, and then when the year and my age are even simultaneously, things are really great. I definitely prefer even numbers over odd - just weird like that - jillfay

ReplyDeletethis is one Im a loss for words.. Im a firm believer in Karma lately.. I went to New Orleans, thought about putting a hex on the couple of people who have made my life miserable, but then thought.. heck no, karma is going to come and bite my arse.. might as well let Karma go and bite theirs!!
ReplyDeletei have my fair share of "lucky" clothes that i'll choose from for certain things like a meeting or a game. if i hear a favorite song on the way to a big event i know it will go well. and i always have to leave the house after my boyfriend does in the morning!
ReplyDeleteThe only one I can think of is holding my breath while driving past a cemetary...learned that as a kid. It is so the ghosts won't haunt you. Still do it! Although, I recently attended a grave side service, and for obvious reasons did not try holding my breath the whole time. Still haven't been haunted, so it may not be true ;) LeslieGC
ReplyDeleteI am superstitious about opening the umbrella in the house. Not to mention it is wet (after being outside that is) so i get nuts when my kids want to do it and it becomes a game.

Not to totally copy you but I too am an even numbers girl. To the point where I may or may not have told my now fiance he needed to propose ASAP b/c I could NOT get married in 2013. The #13 in our wedding anniversary? seriously? no way!

ReplyDeleteI have to have my toenails painted red for football season, and wear my "gameday" panties every Saturday. Clean of course, I'm not THAT superstitious that I won't wash them.
ReplyDeleteI just do the knock on wood thing...really can't think of anything else. When I was in highschool I used to have a lucky penny that I always had in my shoe when I played basketball. Then I had several injuries, and figured it wasn't so lucky!!

I'm an even number person too. I like them better (my birthday is all even numbers). One of my many obsessions with even numbres is that the tv volume and radio volume always have to be on an even number (or 5).
ReplyDeleteBut then, out of nowhere, my alarm clock always needs to be set to an odd number (except 5). I don't know where this comes from... Perhaps because I hate getting up in the morning, so I don't want to associate something so unpleasant with my beloved even numbers?
I am a huge sports fan so when my team is in a playoff or championship game I have to wear the same shirt the whole time the series is on. Especially if they win the first game.

I am another numbers girl...and this is just silly but when I pump gas it has to end on a certain number- EVEN USING A CREDIT CARD where it doesnt matter...like I could pump 20.15 of gas but not 20.16. how insane is that? It has to end on a 0 or a 5. why. who knows. its just my thang:-}
ReplyDeleteOnly thing I can think of is opening the window when a person dies! It has turned into a huge joke at the nursing home I work at and when we think someone is on their way we all say just open the window! That way their spirit can go and won't haunt the building!

ReplyDeleteIn college I had a "lucky" shirt that I would wear for every exam I took. It started my freshman year when I was "convinced" my teacher would like me better if I was supporting "the cause" (i.e. our Engineering society) so I wore a team shirt and ended up with an A on that exam.
ReplyDeleteIt could have also been because I studied a lot better for the exam, but you better believe I wore that shirt to EVERY exam I took after that. (Heck I might even wear it to take my driving test! LOL Yes, I am a college graduate without a DL)

I have all sorts of superstitious when I fly--need to bring a little stuffed kitty, carry a rosary, do a crossword puzzle upon take off.

I'm not very superstitious, but I do believe in good luck/bad luck. I know that anytime I do something...anything...I always have to do it 3x. It never seems to get done on the first try. We always joke that it really doesn't matter, we'll get it on the 3rd try. I guess I take 3x a charm to heart!
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda weird/gross but whenever I find out I'm pregnant I keep the positive pregnancy test until the baby's born. I think if I throw it away something will go wrong. Weird!
ReplyDeleteI lose things a lot, mostly my car keys. Any time I lose something I pray to St. Anthony: Tony, Tony, turn around something's lost and can't be found. I usually add "I can't find my f*cking car keys" and I find them within 10 minutes. I have used this to find many things, and have passed it on to others that have used it with success. TaraUB in IN
ReplyDeleteMy father always told me when you move someplace new you have to get a new broom, he even bought me one when I moved into my first house. ever since, I have bought a new broom when I moved, even if I don't need it.

ReplyDeleteThe weird superstition that I have is that whenever I turn my necklace clasp around when it's slipped from the back of my neck, I make a wish. When I was in high school I turned my one necklace around so much and wished that this one boy would ask me out-and it worked! ID Eloisepeaches
ReplyDeleteI can't think of anything except that some numbers make more comfortable than others. I like my volume of my car stereo to be on an odd number. Anytime the number 19 pops up I'm comforted. It's my number.

I hate it when I see a black cat run in front of me and I don't like the number "666". I know it's silly but that's just the way I am. :) Hope you are having a great week!! Nan
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can think of is my tendency to believe something big will happen every 5 years. 5 years between meeting and marrying my husband. 5 years (within a few months) between each of my three children etc. With my youngest being 4 1/2 I guess it's time for something big to happen.

ReplyDeleteFor someone who doesn't actually believe in this kind of stuff, I'm oddly superstitious. I have tons of little things, but the one I always do is whenever I drive under a moving train, I have to touch a screw in the car, lift my feet, and I make a wish. My husband always laughs if we're in a new car or riding with someone because as soon as I see a train coming up, I start frantically searching their car for an exposed screw.

ReplyDeleteI knock on wood too, but I also wish on the first star I see at night, and anytime I run a yellow light, I have to kiss my fingers and touch them to my sun visor (or headliner if the visor is down). For some weird reason, I think that will keep me from being pulled over. :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I glace at the clock and it is 12:34. I close my eyes and make a wish and I can't open them until the time has changed. I sometimes peek but I can't look at the time. The next time I do it has to be 12:35..or my wish isn't going to come true. Yeah weird but it's a something I did when I was little and I still do it from time to time...when I see 12:34.

ReplyDeleteI try not to talk a lot or think a lot about what I DON'T want, but rather, focus on what I DO want. I'm always afraid that whatever I focus on is what will happen, and lord knows I don't need any bad stuff!
ReplyDeleteThe Colts don't win unless I wear my Peyton Manning jersey. I haven't pulled it out of the back of my closet yet this season, so I rest my case. (And yay, now that I think about it, I now know how to save the rest of the season!) Also, pillow case opennings have to be positioned on the bed AWAY from the door or it is bad luck.

I definitely believe in the rule of 3's. I work in a hospital and we are very superstitious (sp??). I also believe that crazy things happen on the full moon. Again, I have my career to blame on this.

My weird superstition is that I NEVER do laundry on New Year's day,because it means that someone in my family will die. Think I learned that from my Granny! I also never tempt fate by stepping on sidewalk cracks, or walking under ladders. Black cats crossing the road does not bother me!
