Debut author Sarah Healy has written such a great book, and I’m laughing kind of because of the play on her last name – because Can I Get an Amen? is kind of a ‘healing’ book. I’m not quite through with it but it’s a charming read, and my pal Emily Giffin calls it "an emotional and satisfying novel that's as tender as it is funny... fresh, honest, and addictive." So you know if it's got Em's stamp of approval, it's fabulous!
I’m in love with Ellen who gets dumped by her husband because of their infertility problems and she finds herself back at home with her very God-loving, God-fearing mom, who spurts phrases about the Lord every other sentence, and suggests that Jesus will show Ellen the way.
With a gay brother (how does her mother deal with THAT?) and a sister who couldn’t get the hell outta there fast enough, Ellen’s family has already won me over. I can’t wait to find out what happens when this new man comes into Ellen’s life, or what happens when the dirt bag of a husband who ditched her realizes he made the stupidest mistake of his life!

I grew up Nazarene, but we've been attending a Baptist church for years. It is my home now.

We never attended church as kids (dad was Catholic, mom was Methodist). So when I got married I joined the church that my husband's family attended. We still go and our kids do the Sunday school thing, too.

My Mom took us to a Christian church. My nanny took us to a Catholic church. I was taught to say my prayers every night by my grandma, who never went to church.

ReplyDeletegrew up in catholic church, after my grandpa died whom I used to go to church with, I stopped going.. I dont practice now, I really didn't back then either, went to spend time with my grandpa.

ReplyDeleteI was born into a Methodist family (attending church up until about 7 years old). We then converted to Mormonism and left after about 4 years. My parents and sister became agnostic while I still searched for the true meaning of that personal relationship with Jesus. I started attending a Pentacostal church and was baptized into the church (after becoming a Christian..but was I always a Christian)?!?. Then I left after a few years and started attending a non-denominational church which I now consider myself. lol. Is that too much?!?!

I didn't grow up with a religion and still don't follow one. I live my life just trying to be a decent, caring person who knows right from wrong and I try not to judge others (try being the operative word -- no ones perfect right?).

Started out as Catholic, then we were switched to Baptist. My husband was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Who would have thought that the two of us would grow up into a fun loving pair of atheists :)
