KEEPSAKE By Kristina Riggle

Congrats Luvschocolate!

Please send your full name, address and title of book you have won to stephanieelliot@gmail.com so I can send your book to you!

I got Keepsake and the mail and zipped through the first five chapters. I immediately fell in love with the main characters, hoarder Trish, whose life unfolds exactly like one of the reality folks on the real show Hoarders. I also felt extreme compassion for her sister, Mary, who is the complete opposite, with OCD issues. My heart melts for poor little Jack, Trish’s son, who is living in the mess of Trish’s life and I’m excited to see what comes next in this novel by Kristina Riggle. I have featured all of her books on Manic and I’m always excited to see what she has in store next – her writing is so fluid and real and you can’t help but feel for her characters and the real-life experiences they are striving to get through.
You’ll love Keepsake, and if you don’t win it here, be sure to pick it up, along with all of Kris’ other novels – they’re all fabulous – I promise you will love them all!

Blurb:
Trish isn’t perfect. She’s divorced, raising two kids — so of course her house isn’t pristine. But she’s got all the important things right and she’s convinced herself she has it all under control. That is, until the day her son gets hurt and Child Protective Services comes calling. It’s at that moment Trish is forced to consider the one thing she’s always hoped wasn’t true: that she’s living out her mother's life as a compulsive hoarder.

The last person Trish ever wanted to turn to for help is her sister Mary — meticulous, perfect Mary whose house is always spotless … and who moved away from their mother to live somewhere else, just like Trish’s oldest child has done now. But now, working together to get Trish’s disaster of a home into livable shape, two very different sisters are about to uncover more than just piles of junk , as years of secrets, resentments, obsessions, and pain are finally brought into the light.

If you’d like to win Keepsake, tell me NOT about a keepsake that you hold close – that would be way too easy – tell me if you’ve ever had a hoarding experience or something that you collect too much of? I think I’m a hoarder of books. In fact here are a couple photos of my office right now, and some of these books are the books that will be given to the GRAND PRIZE WINNER at the end of June! Mine is definitely books too. My boyfriend and I are moving on Saturday and so we have packed up all my books. I have 3 big boxes and 2 laundry baskets full. That's after I took some to the used bookstore too.

  4. I used to save a ton of stuff until I married a military man and we started moving every couple of years. Now I toss everything simply because I don't want to deal with moving it!

  11. I definitely have a lot of books but since they are generally organized I don't consider them a hoard. It's everything else I seem to have too much of...clothes, school papers, shoes, etc.

I'm like you, I'm definitely a book hoarder. I ran out of space on my bookshelves, so now I have to pack some away in boxes in my basement. I also hoard cookbooks and cooking magazines. I never throw away cooking magazines.

  13. I hoard anything and everything that my little one makes, draws, doodles, colors...you get it. He's my only, and I want to save everything that he does so he can see it one day.

  15. I totally hoard books. But then I also am okay donating or giving away some. I hoard my kids' toys too. After seeing TS3, I feel guilty about giving them away.

I tend to save a lot of different stuff. but for some reason I've always tended to hoard pens and paper. If I find a really good pen, I'll buy like 5, and I've always liked having unusual paper sizes and colors to make notes on.

  17. Guilty, I am a book hoarder too. But that's probably a given with everyone that is here. My other obsession is my salt and pepper shaker collection. It started innocently years ago when I saw my husband's grandma's collection. And now I think I have over 100 sets. I need a bigger display case!

I grew up in a military family. Hoarding really hasn't ever been in issue. I guess because of moving often.

I don't think there is anything I hoard. Once I moved out of a big house and into a much smaller one, I realized how much stuff I had accumulated in closets and now, I am scared to buy anything!

  30. I am totally a book hoarder...but I also hoard random paperwork - every receipt, every piece of documentation on things I buy...which I guess is good, in a way...but leads to very unnecessary clutter!

I hoard boxes! Anytime I purchase anything that comes in a box, I keep it rather than throwing it away. I have a closet full of empty boxes.

Definitely not a horder. At least not a visable one. Some of my closets are cram packed with junk, but once it spills out of hiding, I get rid of it.

  40. I definitely hoard...everything! I blame my grandmother. She can't throw anything away. I'm working on it and getting better. One of my worst offenses is paperwork/junkmail. I have piles and boxes stashed that I need to go thru. I recently found a box with 20 year old credit card apps that I hadn't thrown out. It is mental illness I tell ya!!

Books is one of my favorite things to have, but I also am a sucker for jewelery. I can't go into a clothing store and not buy a new pair of earrings, or bracelet to go with a new outfit...or any outfit that I already have. If I like the way it looks, I totally buy it.

I save pictures! Even the bad ones! I've got boxes upon boxes of photos from my childhood, my husband's family, and millions since my kids were born. It's a little better now that most photos are digital..but I even have a hard time deleting pics from my phone!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I keep anything that I think I might need or use...someday. My husband gets so frustrated because I, "Don't get rid of ANYTHING!" However, it's not even close to being bad enough to be on an episode of Hoarders!

  59. I've never really been a hoarder. But if I had to guess I would say fliers for all the concerts I go to. I started this 9 years ago and I have made it into a alternative to wallpaper. I use fabric background and hang all my fliers on my wall. But I CRAVE books! I want to be a book hoarder but I can't afford it so I just go to the library.

Hmmm, I went through a phase where every time I walked into a book store, I left with not one, but multiple books. Books that I hadn't read were stacking up faster than ones that I had read. I've gotten that under control though. I would say that I hoard sentimental items, like notes/cards I have received, ticket stubs from concerts and movies, to some sort of reminder from special events like a themed toothpick or stirrer to even paper streamers from a concert.
