PROSPER IN LOVE by Deborah Michel

See if you won this book by checking HERE .

So, today’s book is Prosper In Love by Deborah Michel and I’ve started it and I’ve got to say it’s really entertaining and seems to be quite mysterious so far – you’ve got this married couple – charming busy traveling lawyer husband Jamie, and then the busy museum curator wife (love books with an art theme – my art history minor going to work for me!), and they’re perfect for one another.

And in comes this guy, F.X. actually, who seems to be Lynn’s good friend from college, one of those guys who never quite got his way with Lynn, and maybe he’s back in town to do just that? Hmmm?

Is F.X. the cause or was their marriage doomed from the start?

Read on for the book blurb!

A good marriage lasts forever…until it doesn’t.

From the start, Lynn and Jamie Prosper were one of those couples who seem meant to be—so content with each other that they barely notice the rest of the world nodding approvingly at their wedded bliss. But sometimes, even in the very best of marriages, all it takes is a mischievous outsider to bring the perfect couple toppling off the top of the wedding cake…

True, Jamie has been working so hard and traveling so much as a young lawyer that he hardly has enough energy to show his devotion. Not that Lynn, a junior museum curator, has any reason to question it. But when Lynn’s old college friend turns up at a cocktail party, chinks in their marriage’s previously unassailable armor start to show.

Suddenly, without meaning to, Lynn and Jamie have both acquired divorce lawyers. And those benevolent onlookers—meddling in-laws and competitive friends alike—eagerly bear witness to each new misstep. Is love really enough to make a marriage last?

My boring (but true!)answer would be trust, respect and communication. My creative answer would be wine, nights on the couch watching entire TV series on box sets, and dates on the beach!

my true answer: laughter, respect & caring. my creative answer: a surprise ice cream sundae for dinner when it's YOUR turn to cook,
the ability to "speak" using just your eyes and having a special ritual at bedtime that only the two of you know about.

I'm not married but my guess would be hard work, cheering for the same team and having your own language that no one else understands, that makes you laugh.

I'm not married, but I've witnessed my parents who have been married for 38 years.

I would say from observing them the 3 things to a good marriage are:
1. laughter
2. sense of adventure/willingness to do new things together
3. communication, or lack thereof. I think my Dad survived having 3 daughters and being the only male by not listening to all the bickering that was going on around him.

Intimacy (not just sex), Ability to take turns worrying about a certain issue (money, kids, work, whatever) - we have worked it out that we both don't feel like we are losing it at the same time, and the want to be together - whether it's doing what I love or my partner loves or what the kids want - as long as we are together, my husband and I are happy.

1. Laughter, 2. A clear understanding if you are a cat person or a dog person and it's probably best if you are both on the same team for this one, 3. A shared responsibility for cleaning the bathroom...or room in the budget for a maid if a compromise can't be reached. :)
