iTunes Help

Hey all! I've got $30 worth of iTunes gift cards buring a hole in my pocket and I want to buy really, really, really good music that will motivate me when I exercise (even though it's freaking snowing here, and it WASN'T in Maryland so when I came home I was all like, bummer, this sucks, and of course, didn't exercise today).

Can you leave me some song suggestions in the comments?

I've already got Yaz, Cure, New Order, U2, Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews, Natalie Merchant, Poi Dog Pondering, Seal, Cold Play, Black Eyed Peas, Counting Crows, Depeche Mode, Bodeans, Simply Red, Neil Diamond, The Wiggles, Barney's Greatest Hits, Kidz Bop V, Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, John Denver... haha, just seeing if you're paying attention with those last few...

And new stuff. I have no clue what new stuff is, although I hear that song about it being hard to be a pimp is pretty rockin' (Ugh, sorry, but the Oscars hit a new low with that one last night, don't you think so?)

Also, any of you thirty-somethingers out there, any 'old school' tunes you can think of that just bring you back to those 'good-old' days? And speaking of Thirty Something... remember when we were barely in our twenties watching that show, thinking, God, thirty is JUST sooo old, but also thinking that Hope and Michael, and Elliot and the rest of the Thirty Something crew did have some fun for being old folks! ha.

Anyway, lay them songs up on me please!

Hello! Thanks for the visit...

I don't know if you are a Madonna fan, but her new album (can I still call it that?) is a dance party waitin' to happen! :)

Otherwise, I have some great "mixed tapes" from the 90's that you can borrow!! Hee-hee!

I'm a huge show tunes fan myself - but I like anything cold play (fix you, in my place)

Or

Fiona Apple (vintage -- Criminal)

Or

Keane...

I vote for Madonna-but I think anything from her "Ray of Light", especially the title track, is very workout friendly. And...

From the "Run Lola Run" soundtrack any of the "Wish" remixes work great. I used to pop that entire album in the cd player and hit the eliptical.

Old School: How about some Beastie Boys..."Fight for your Right" is a heart thumper and come on, where is the Duran Duran "Hungry Like the Wolf" or "Rio"...classic dance tunes. There is my personal favorite Depeche Mode: "Route 66" has a great beat.

New? Well, you could try The Killers "Somebody Told Me"...

I have some good Brit Pop suggestions, but the names of the songs are escaping me right now. Most of those come from dance nights with many drinks...I can hear them in my head but...if I get a sudden flash, I'll pop on by again.

Have fun iTune shopping!

well if you are looking for great workout music.... I use the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever... lol.

It really works, all those great dance songs :)

Other than that I listen to more hardcore stuff like Disturbed, Green Day, Rob Zombie...

Funny you mentioned this! I've been buying iTunes songs like crazy. I've spent about $60 in the past two months making CD's for my husband.

While I HATE Eminem, his stuff is good to work out to when you're pissed. I also dislike Britney but again, catchy pop tunes and thinking of her (former) twelve pack helps motivate. Madonna always a safe bet. I bought; Breathe on Me/Britney, Hung Up/Madonna, Around the world/A touch of class, Waiting for tonight/J.Lo, Starry eyed surprise/Paul Oakenfold. Oakenfold is a huge DJ so if you like the techno stuff his is good to work out to.
Good luck!

these may be a bit 'older' than you're looking for, but if i had to start with 4 tunes to get my workout going i might choose:
takin' it to the streets-doobie brothers, behind the lines-genesis, higher ground-stevie wonder, i want you to want me-cheap trick

It is FREE. Pirating, but totally been up for a long time. itunes is riduclous when I got the entire Coldplayu, Cure, insert a million other bands here anthologies there- not just one song.
Try Goldfrapp, good upbeat tempo.
Also try Frou Frou, DJ Shadow.

Note: When you type in what you want (or you can select from musical genres and just browse. Sometimes I click on what sounds good and am surprised. There are even compilations on there that are good..) make sure you look at the 'seeder' column. The more 'seeders', the faster it downloads to your comoputer (then you can put on the ipod). If there are 0 seeders, no go. This is fun as there are often new cds up there.
