Aaaaaaw, I'm sorry! We have another few weeks of summer here, but I am fairly certain that I'll have some deafening days of quiet between sending them off on the big mean school bus and winging my way to China for Baby A. I'll be crying too!

Just found your site and wanted to say hi. I can totally relate. My kids will be going back next week. I still have two more at home. But, I know I will miss the other two.

ah..get a drink, watch the view and enjoy the downtime. As parents we never get it..and when we do we always feel guilty of it.

Me too. I thought I'd be happy and excited and love the time to myself but I feel lost.

I think the worst part was that I imagined the kids being in school all day and getting spend the lunch hour with my hubby. I sooo looked forward to time alone just the two of us every single day.

Now I have the time alone, truly alone and I'm not impressed.

Oh Manic, I thought we were so alike until I read this post. You must pull yourself together girl! Ha ha.

Yeah, Nicole went back yesterday too. In the afternoon I was web searching and thought "hmm, I'l go play a game with Nicole, what should we play?", then remembered that she wasnt' here, and wouldn't be home for 3 more hours! WAAAAAAA/sniff

Go for it. Every girl needs a good cry once in a while.

It's okay. They will be home soon and everything will be as loud as you remember. And you will get to hear all about their day at school. :)

:( We don't start until next Wednesday... I'm checking back in a few days to see if it gets better.

Yeah, I'm actually fine, and starting to get a headache, which will probably just get bigger when they get off the bus. I should go take some aspirin now!

Still, it was a weird day.

cry a good cry... then crack open a cold beverage of your choice, grab a book and revel in the loud silence! :)

My 7 yr old starts tomorrow, and I'm bummed about it. My 4.5 yr old doesn't start until after labor day. I love them not being in school. I work full time, but I love them being able to hang out with each other. They grow up fast enough as it is.

I'm sure they will have some fun back to school stories to share with you, which you MUST post!

Oh that's right! ALL your kids are in school now!

In a few weeks, you will welcome the silence, believe me. It just takes getting used to.

You just never know how you'll react. When my two got out of school in June, I noticed I was happy -- the exact opposite emotion I was expecting! Now that I'm worried about missing them in a few days when they go back, maybe I won't. Could I be so lucky to be happy on both ends of summer?

It's okay to be sad. And it's okay if you're glad tomorrow. =)

Hey there.....
I say now is the time to be selfish when they are away during the day!

It's you time.

They will be back. Enjoy them and spoil them when they return. Until then ...... run around the house naked or do whatever it is you do.

;)

Growing up is good. Wallow for a few minutes - you're allowed. It's a milestone, like when that last baby tooth falls our or they stop nursing. It stings a bit. It's bittersweet. But count your blessings that they will grow up. You know why.

Bless your heart. (Although I must say I'm a tad jealous of your quiet.) The house always seems weird when my boy isn't here, too.

Was it better today?

I think when it happens for me I'll feel the same way...even if I do have a few years to get ready for it.

Thanks for the comments. I am not sure how I found you. I like to read others blog rolls. I think you were on someone's roll. Hope each day is getting easier for you.

Aw... Cry all you want! You know, I lost 35 pounds when my youngest went to kindergarten because I was so depressed. Now she's in 8th grade and I celebrate when school starts!! :o)

Awww Steph! I'm so sorry it's sad when they're gone. Our grade school and older starts next Tuesday (my husband goes back already?) and K and below starts the following week. I'm a little nervous about how I'll feel, but at least I have two years to prepare before they're both gone at school 5 days a week (unless of course Little Miss qualifies for early learning when she gets evaluated next Friday...).

So how did *they* enjoy the first day of (back at) school? No first day pics for us all to ooo and ahhh over?

Martini said...

Yes....Martini.

Forgot I changed my profile thingy.....

Hey Manic,
You guys are a couple weeks ahead of us in CT. I know this is how I'll feel when my youngest goes full time to 1st grade next year.

Love the poem.

Oh! My youngest starts kindergarten on Thursday. I am outwardly really psyched, but in those quiet moments, I am feeling the pang.

Poor you. I shall be the opposite when next week comes around. It will be all cartwheels and cheers in my house. I'm an awful mom!
