Are "CERTAIN GIRLS" "GOOD IN BED?"

CONTEST ALERT for all you Jennifer Weiner fans!

Don't know who Jennifer Weiner is?

Helloooo? Did you just crawl out from under a rock? Do you wear BLINDERS while walking past bookstores, going to Target, even the grocery store? She's everywhere.

Allow me, if I may, because I love sooo to enlighten:

Jen and Me:

Me and Jen:

Books by Jen:

Signed copies by Jen, to me. I have many more, but why make you jealous take up blog space?

Well, OK, here are some more:

Books:

So, Jen's new book is coming out April 8th, JUST IN TIME FOR MY BIRTHDAY PRACTICALLY. Certain Girls is the continuation of GOOD IN BED, 13 years after the fact.

I first discovered Jen Weiner while living in PA; I had read about her in Philly magazine. This is when I was pregnant with Tukey, and was on the verge of 'thinking' about writing again. She inspired me! I was pregnant -- I went to the bookstore and asked, "Do you have GOOD IN BED?"

Obviously, I was already GOOD IN BED since I knew what I was doing in bed since I was pregnant, right? I knew what I was doing at least--I got that part right!

GOOD IN BED became my favorite book. Jen's writing is funny and quirky. She is real and doesn't sugar-coat! She started the whole snowball of Chickliterarism that led to so many more amazing authors to follow her lead!

So let's have a freaking Manic Mom party, shall we? I happen to have legally come across four copies of the newly revamped GOOD IN BED with a hot new cover and TWO hardback copies of Certain Girls, when really, I was supposed to only receive ONE COPY of Certain Girls, which I was supposed to have kept and read for myself.

Long story short, I tried to get Swishy a copy on eBay but failed, so one copy is going to her for a belated b'day, and one copy is going to someone out there! Because I am a Pay-It-Forward kinda gal (ALTHOUGH I AM READING IT FIRST!)

But not to worry, I have already ordered MY OWN COPY on Amazon but it's not arriving till May, hence the reason I'm reading YOUR copy first. But still, you'll get a copy, which may or may not make it more fun to know it's been pre-read by moi? You decide.

This contest may be the easiest one EVER! Leave me your name and an email address in the comments section. THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO DO!

Like the blood drive contest video drawing, I will pull names later this week to show you who has won the four copies of GOOD IN BED. From those four names, I will then pull one of those names to also win the pre-read copy of Certain Girls! As an incredible BONUS, all winners will also receive a Manic Mommy magnet. Too much to handle, I know.

Too much...

So go ahead, leave your name and an email address where I can contact you, and let the fun begin! If you know of a Jennifer Weiner fan (and WHO DOESN'T??), please share the contest love!

This makes it so much easier for me when running a contest, so please, everyone, do what Bina did! And she should know, cuz she has won a Manic contest previously!!!! And even if you've won a contest before, you can still play!

I cannot even tell you how much I love Jen Weiner. I read Good in Bed years ago, and it quickly became my favorite book. I think I may have read it 10 times since, and the fact that Certain Girls is a continuation of THAT book? Makes me all giddy. I cannot wait. Cannie, Peter, Joy! Will BRUCE be making an appearance? Did Peter and Cannie have any more kids? I'm dying. I know it's a random drawing, but pick me! Pick me!

My oldest daughter turns 16 on April 8th, so even if I don't win, I'll be going out and buying a copy on that day. Not for her of course...for me! Hee.

I not only love Jennifer Weiner books - but Good in Bed (which I only recently read) struck such a chord with me being a "larger" Jewish Philly girl and...I write for a large newspaper, and I'm single and a mom! The only difference? I'm alittle older than Cannie is Certain Girls.

Oh, I'm not in Philly now -- although you can take the girl out of Philly but you can't take Philly out of the girl. Yo!

I have to say, and I'm only gonna say this because the Anon poster is not coming back, because she said she is not coming back, because I've lost a reader, she really bummed me out this morning, and I need to take my own advice about NOT letting other people's garbage rub off on me but I can't help it...

She wrote:

This contest FELL into my lap. I didn't go searching for these books. A publicist emailed me and said she had these books and did I want to offer them to my blog readers. HELLOOOO??? If ANYONE knows me, they know I LOVE Jennifer Weiner.

So why am I even explaining myself? If there's one person who doesn't want to read my blog because I am being NICE and taking my OWN time to spend my OWN money to mail out books that have LANDED into my lap to people who might enjoy reading FREE books, then pardon me, but fuck it. I'm doing it. It's my blog, and if you don't want to read anymore, I'm sure there are plenty of other blogs out there for you to enjoy.

There, I didn't take your garbage. I simply brushed it out of my way, and now I'm going to get ready for yoga and have myself a very pleasant stressfree day. Nama-fucking-stay!

Manic Mom said...

Oh, and Martini

You're entered, but you do know that you'll have to leave your email address and then all these women will have access to be able to contact you!!! Hee hee hee. ALthough, I'm sure you'll be back to check in to see if you win, and there's only one Martini.

Manic, You are awesome! Thanks for doing this contest and hooray for not letting someone's crap get you down. I don't get that--if you don't like someone's blog, move on, but why tell the person that you think they suck? Way to spread some love on the internet. Ah well. Have fun at yoga!

ktbookworm dot mac dot com (although I should bow out of this contest since I/we have won 2--Ryan goes to donate blood in 2 weeks before he goes to Africa--good news--it's only a year after he gets back, not 3)

Hello Manic,

I thought I'd post to try to keep the Anonymous nice/nasty ratio up.

As a general rule, I don't read blogs; I usually rail against them. Yours is a rare exception; actually a guilty pleasure (The guilt keeps me anonymous!).

Self-promote all you want. Keep the contests and all the other fun stuff comin'. Someday you'll be rich and famous and we'll all miss your blog because you won't have time for it anymore; you'll be too busy appearing in TV interviews and counting money like JK Rowling.

Sincerely,

Anon Satisfied Customer

Manic Mom said...

Thank you to the nice anonymous posters! I don't get why one rotten one should spoil the bunch... I won't let it! You guys are so great. I am thinking to myself, I wonder if the nasty anon poster entered the contest--LOL!

I hope Anon Satisfied Customer entered the contest!

And Kate, and anyone else who's won a previous contest, you can all enter.

And one more thing for the Nasty Anon Poster, who I will now refer to as NOP, no more worries, because I don't think there will be any more contests for a while. So in case you're still out there, cuz, why wouldn't you be, if I were an anon poster, I would sneak back to see if my comment had any effect on the person I tried to bother, especially if I were cowardly enough to stay anon, I would for sure go back and check... but no worries, only self promotion will be coming your way! BIG SELF PROMOTIONS COMING UP! STAY TUNED!

Amanda said...

Self promotion? Isn't that the whole point of a blog? Isn't it a "Look a me! Look at me!" thing? And why not?? How else are you going to get a book published? I think NOP got the grumpy hump because you got to go on telly and they didn't! Speaking as a Brit, I do struggle with the cultural divide from time to time but that's just the joy of the internet and getting to experience other things without having to get off my smaller-than-it-was but still-on-the-large-side arse.
