CHARLOTTE STREET by Danny Wallace

Congratulations to
KIMMI with the Penguin logo!
You've won Charlotte Street!
Email me at stephanieelliot@gmail.com with your full name and address so I can send you your book!

Note: Winners from previous entry Forgotten announced below!

“Danny Wallace’s long-awaited debut novel is so worth the wait… a moving, funny, all-too-relatable tale of boy seeking girl, with some gripping twists and turns… an unmissable read which will have you laughing out loud and melt your heart, all at once.” - Cosmopolitan

I'm excited to bring you Danny Wallace's book, Charlotte Street, but before I tell you about that one, he's also written a bunch of other books like these here, which include one that was the basis for the screenplay Yes Man, which starred Jim Carrey. His other books are touching and sincere, and they really make me want to find Danny Wallace and just sit down with him and figure this guy out. He's THAT interesting.

BUT this is not what this post is about. This post is about his latest book Charlotte Street. I've started it, and the tagline on the cover is: A heartwarming everyday tale of boy stalks girl.

Who doesn't love a boy-stalks-girl story, especially when it's written BY A BOY!?! I'm totally into it, and you know how I love when I find a guy author that I want to share with you all, I just have to bring these kind of books to you, so that's what I'm doing here!

Here's the back of the book blurb, which should grab you all right away!
It all starts with a girl... (because yes, there's always a girl...)

Jason Priestley (not that one) has just seen her. They shared an incredible, brief, fleeting moment of deep possibility, somewhere halfway down Charlotte Street.

And then, just like that, she was gone - accidentally leaving him holding her old-fashioned, disposable camera, chock full of undeveloped photos...

And now Jason - ex-teacher, ex-boyfriend, part-time writer and reluctant hero - faces a dilemma. Should he try and track The Girl down? What if she's The One? But that would mean using the only clues he has, which lie untouched in this tatty disposable...

It's funny how things can develop...

Here's Danny talking about the book (I might have a little crush, and that accent!!!)

Read an excerpt here: EXCERPT OF CHARLOTTE STREET

To win a copy of Charlotte Street, tell me if you have ever stalked a boy you may have had a crush on. Share as much as you feel like you would like to! Guilty here!! On quite a few occasions!

In the future, I'll announce winner's names on the next posts at the bottom like this rather than doing a separate post, just to keep things moving on the blog. And/or I'll try to remember to put the winner's name on top of the post of the book that they have won - will that make it easy for you all to find out if you've won a book? Leave a comment along with your entry for Charlotte Street! Thanks!

And, here are the two winners from last week's book by Catherine McKenzie: FORGOTTEN! Please email me your full names and addresses and I will make sure you receive your books. Congrats to:

If you're new to Booking with Manic, thank you for stopping by! We love new readers! Some notes - If you're entering to win a book, please use an identifying name and it's usually a great idea to include an email, which I will never give out to anyone else. You'll need to check back here in about a week or so to see if you've won the book -- I will highlight the winner's name at the top of this post, or tell you where you can find the winner's name at the top of this post. Most books are supplied directly through publishers, publicists and the authors. Winners will receive books directly from the publisher or author within 3 weeks from the time you provide me with your address, unless I send you the book (sometimes I will). Sorry, but we can only ship to U.S. and Canada so if you're from another country, thank you for coming by to read and discover new authors, but we can't send you a book. In high school, we were all guilty of driving by the guy we had a crush on and we were terrified he would see us do it.

Facebook has made stalking easier than when I was in high school. We would have to borrow the car and drive by his house!

I was never really a stalker.

Both in high school and college. Although that was years before facebook, so I had to do it either by phoning or actually being there!

As far as I'm concerned, as long as you say that the winners are at the bottom of the next post, that's fine with me.

I've done my share of stalking from time to time. It was more like I'd figure out their schedule and plan to be nearby after they got out of class. :)

Have I ever! hahaha Now that facebook is around it's much easier. haha My first "real" boyfriend and I broke up ten years ago. I'm still madly in love with him but he has moved on. Thanks to facebook I get to see what he is up to. Don't worry, he accepted my friendship on there but still.

In college, my friends and I used to stalk the object of our crushes. We would try to attend events where we thought they would be. There was a way that you could call their number and go straight into their voice mail, so we would do that to try to figure out which room they were in and who they roomed with. I even tried to take a picture of my crush by pretending to take a picture of my friend when he walked by in the background. lol.

Of course who hasn't stalked a guy. Showing up where he is etc.

Oh yes...mine was in Junior high though which in retrospect made it so much more obvious. We couldn't drive yet so my friends and I would "casually" walk by the houses of the boys we liked. Now that I look back on it I can see how desperate we must have appeared at the time. :)

My friend stalked a senior when we were sophomores. It was obvious he didn't like her. He finally approached her and told her to stop.

All I can say is that it's a good thing Facebook wasn't around when I was a teenager! I had crushes on and stalked so many boys -- I was your typical boy-crazy teenager and I wasn't afraid to show it :) I left love notes in one dude's locker numerous times, called him, followed him around the school halls. Poor guy. He was older than me by a few years so he would have never dared ask me out (I was in grade 8, he in grade 11, so too awkward of an age difference then). Then there was the guy who worked at the grocery store across the street from where I lived. He worked in the bakery & was sooooo shy. He would blush every time I walked in. My mom & I went in there every couple of days to buy a few things and I would just gawk at him. On Valentine's Day, I had red roses delivered to him at the store. I didn't sign my name, but he knew they were from me because he thanked me quietly the next time I was shopping :) Again, he was older than me by about 4 years I think.

I could go on....and on....but I'll spare you. This time anyways.

Haha, this sounds cute! The closest I came was carrying around a picture of a guy I liked in my wallet. It was pretty mortifying when someone told him!

Terri said...

Of course! Who hasn't? I actually feel sorry for the kids of today. Thanks to caller ID, there's no more calling a boy's home and hanging up just so you can hear his voice!

Ahhh with Facebook who haven't I stalked? haha
When I was in middle school my best friend and I had a crush on her high school neighbor. We would sit outside and try to stare into his window. He was such a nice guy that he would even play along...
We would bake and then accidently run out of something and go over to his house to borrow sugar. (giggling ensued of course). And he would flirt when we came to the door. We were so smitten!

the internet is helpful with stalking...although when i was in high school there was a guy i liked who worked at a store near me and there were a few times where i would just wander around the store "accidentally" following him!

In high school with my best friend - driving by his house and calling his home phone number and asking if he was home and then hanging up the phone. Good times.

Oh my goodness yes! As high school sophomores, my best friend and I used to drive by this super-cute senior's house "on the way" to her house every day after school. He had no idea we existed, but we'd shriek with excitement if he was actually in his yard when we would drive by. So very sad....

YES!! OMG Me & my girlfriends in HS would go "crusing the hood" which consisted of driving past a number of boys houses...just hoping we could catch them outside & say we were just in the neighborhood. LOL

We would go watch wresting practice to see the guy we thought was stalk-worthy. Who the heck watches wrestling practice and those uniforms are NOT sexy! But once he tripped and fell right in front of us and was sooo embarrassed. So maybe he liked one of us back?

I don't think I really stalked any guy, but I stalked a girl at work that I wanted to be friends with. Just found convenient reasons to talk to her. She was one of the non-conservative people I found at work and I needed to be her friend. We're still friends.

Of course! In highschool we would drive by the house of the guys that we liked, or where they worked, or if they were on a team practicing...it was always so much fun. We never even cared if they saw or caught us. That just meant that they knew we were interested, so it was their move if they were too!

accidentalgypsy said...

Oh, I'm definitely guilty of this! :) Driving by his house every night after work for like 2 weeks. Oh, I was so young and dumb. :)

Oh yeah. In high school we used to do the drive-by's of the houses of the boys my friends and I liked.

Yes in high school I sure did! I used to drive by his house all the time just in case I'd see him. And I always had some story as to why I was near his house, just in case he caught me!

I can't say I have ever really stalked anyone except through social media. I remember my friend having something for a guy and we both watched his posts, checked out his friends' pages, and monitored his activity on a regular basis.

Guilty! Did the drive by thing in high school, happened to be in the same area, etc. Now with FB it is so much easier...of course, it's hard to accidently on purpose get "caught"!

Oh hell to the yeah, I've stalked someone. Even though we're both happily ensconced in relationships, I still keep track of the boy from 2nd grade who caught my eye (thank you Mark Zuckerberg!).
