HOW LUCKY YOU ARE by Kristyn Kusek Lewis

If you enjoy books by Emily Giffin and Marisa de los Santos (TOTALLY UP MY ALLEY, RIGHT?!?!), you will love How Lucky You Are by Kristyn Kusek Lewis, a book about friendship and the pressures of what life throws your way. (Well, not 'your' way technically, but the characters' way!)

So many authors I admire have recommended this book, (Sarah Jio, Meg Mitchell Moore to name just two!) and although I have yet to read it, it is nearing the top of my To Be Read pile and I'm very anxious to get the quiet time to sit and discover the story of the three women in Kristyn's story.

Here is what How Lucky You Are, which is something I need to remind myself a lot lately, because while things have been a bit hard for our family personally, I know we're still very, very lucky!

How Lucky You Are is an engaging and moving novel about three women struggling to keep their longstanding friendship alive. Waverly, who’s always been the group’s anchor, runs a cozy bakery but worries each month about her mounting debt. Kate is married to a man who’s on track to be the next governor of Virginia, but the larger questions brewing in their future are unsettling her. Stay-at-home mom Amy has a perfect life on paper, but as the horrific secret she’s keeping from her friends threatens to reveal itself, she panics. As life’s pressures build all around them, Waverly knows she has some big decisions to make. In doing so, she will discover that the lines between loyalty and betrayal can become blurred, happy endings aren’t always clear-cut, and sometimes you have to risk everything to gain the life you deserve.

I am lucky to have the mother I have. I have come into a sickness that is going on 14 days now and have missed so much work. I'm short on cash and my mom has helped out with doctor visits and prescriptions.

I am lucky to live somewhere I feel safe. NC is #4 in domestic violence homicides and we just had another one on Monday 2 offices down from me. I feel very lucky to live without fear.

This past weekend, my husband and I just made a huge move to a new town and a new state where we don't know anyone. I feel so incredibly lucky and blessed to have such good long-distance support from our friends and family as we make this transition.

I'm lucky to have my beautiful, healthy daughter. I wasn't able to get pregnant, so we were lucky to adopt our daughter as a newborn, though she was born 6 weeks early. She is now 3 1/2, and you'd never guess she was a preemie! We were also lucky that we didn't have to wait long, we waited "only" 2 years for a birthmom to choose us, which is not very long when you're adopting!

For a long time, I looked at much of life as it being negative. Both my kids have special needs and everything was just in a downward spiral. The way I got out of it was to start putting a positive spin on things.....yes, my kids have special needs BUT we live in a city with a lot of funding and a lot of resources compared to other areas of our country. Yes, my son had thousands of seizures in the first 5 years of his life BUT he's seizure free for now! Yes, it's been tough being a stay at home mom with these two kids of mine BUT I have a supportive husband AND we are financially able to also employ a nanny to take some of the stress off of our plates! So.....I always try to look at these things as if I'm lucky.....things could always....always.....be worse!

My sister recently had a seizure at work and fell down at her desk. She broke her collarbone and was rushed to the ER. However, if it had happend a half-hour later, she would've been driving in her car and could've been more seriously hurt or hurt someone else. I feel like there was a reason it happened when she could get help and that in turn has helped me realize how lucky I am to have my family in my life.
