Burnin' In My Pocket

I've got a perfectly good itunes card sitting here not getting any younger and I need some good tune suggestions.

Old, new, funky, rappy, hip-hop (but not too hippy), no jazzy, nothing too whiny, upbeat and something to keep me movin' on my iPod. Beetles need not reply. I want some stuff I may have never heard of but will WOW me.

So, send in your suggestions! And I will hold a drawing. The person who wins will receive a Manic Mom CD with those 15 songs I've chosen.

Rock on! And Peace UP!

Now I know why you don't like the BEATLES....or as you typed, The BEETLES - you've been listening to another group this whole time - who are the BEETLES????!!!! HA -HA!!

Anyway, I have a few suggestions - Sugarland "Love Your Baby Girl" and "Gotta Be Something More" - also Martina McBride "This One's For the Girls", "Blessed", "In My Daughter's Eyes " (yes, it's sappy, but having a daughter, YOU will love it!), "How Far", and "Whatever You Say" - oh yes, they are "Country" songs, but GOOD country songs!! Celine Dion "Have You Ever Been in Love"

Of course, ANYTHING by the
Bee Gees, Beatles, Rolling Stones,
(am I showing my age?) - how about Paul Revere and the Raiders???

Is limewire an eff-up though? Does it screw up your computer? How is it still legal?

I wish everyone coulda just sent me links to these songs. It's going to take me forever to go through them to pick my faves!

So far, here's how my list is shaping up:

This is the Day -- The The
Every Breath You Take -- Police
Fidelity -- Regina Spektor (who I'd never heard of, loser mom that I am!)
Fix You Up -- Thanks to Swishy's post the other day
Love Song -- Choosing between 311's version or Cure's, not sure
Letters to Elise -- The Cure, cuz I've been meaning to get that on itunes forever.
Escape one from Gwen
Say it Right -- Nelly Furtado...

I do have a good collection already, with many already from those listed! Keep 'em coming though!

OOH, and I must get Blake Lewis' version of that Season song!

I haven't listened to new music in years . . . I'm old.

MM, I wanted to email you to ask you a question about Mexico, but I couldn't find your address on your profile. Any chance you could email me? We emailed before but I no longer have your address (we had that kids/no kids discussion).

Thank you and if you're too busy don't worry about it.

Anonymous said...

I'd get you my kids playlist but I am not at home this weekend...and I mostly just listen to oldies like '70's and 80's stuff.

iTunes has collections from different decades which is where I find some of the best singles because a lot of the time I don't remember who the singer/group was until I see the title or play a sample.

I also have a comment for commenter "m"... Mexico is so vibrant and colorful and cheap that I can't wait to go back. I was in Barbados just recently but it's not as good as Mexico.

MaNiC MoMMy™ said...

Hey M, I remember you! My email address can be found under my profile page, if you go to my web page, and then check my bio... but, for simplicity's sake, you can email me at:
henhowz@comcast.net.
I was going to email you directly, but you didn't give ME yours!

Cabo is great, and I can fill you in on details. I was just in Cabo San Lucas only, but very generously kind people, no crime, beautiful scenery, and as we all know from my previous post, PLENTY OF MARGARITAS!!

You've got a ga-jillion comments here, so I hope I don't repeat anyone else. But you simply MUST - at the very LEAST - SAMPLE these ENTIRE albums:

Finally Woken - by Jem

Confessions on a Dance Floor - Madonna

Both are great for working out. AWESOME, in fact.

Other than that, can't go wrong with Gwen Stefani or Black Eyed Peas for some good, consistently pumpin' workout beats.

Anonymous said...

PS. Can't forget the soundtrack to SHREK. (the original Shrek, not Shrek 2)

I logged many elliptical miles jammin to those happy beats.

Also, J-lo (Let's get loud)

If I HAD something to download music to, I would choose a great mix of these ten songs:

Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard
Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N' Roses
Independence Day by Martina McBride
The River by Garth Brooks
Faithfully by Journey
I'll be Your Shelter by Taylor Dayne
How to Save a Life by The Fray
100 Years by Five for Fighting
Here I Go Again by Whitesnake

What an awesome post idea!

I totally agree with all the Regina Spektor fans. I like "Better" too.

Other things I've been listening to in an obsessive fashion. I generally download albums though... so here goes.

The Shins - "Wincing the Night Away" or the single "Phantom Limb"

The Weepies - "Say I Am You" or the singles "Take it from me" and "Gotta Have You"

Guster - single "Satellite"

Tegan and Sara - single "Take me Anywhere"

The Martino Conspiracy - single "Hopeful"

Ben Harper - single "Morning Yearning"

James - single "Laid"

Calexico - single "Alone Again Or'

Stephen Malkmus - single "Jenny and the Ess-Dog"

OK... I'll stop for now. I think all these folks have MySpace pages if you want a full listen before committing to the download.

Enjoy your gift certificate!

Now that I know you like the same kind of music I do, I'll just keep dropping by to pester you with names and ideas. I'm an addict. An addict I tell you!

Forgot to mention:

The Decemberists - single "O Valencia"

They are on MySpace too. ;)

Amy Whinehouse - Rehab
Nikka Costa - Everybody got their something
Lois Lane - Tonight
Jamiroquai - Love Foolosophy
Jill Scott - Gimme

I don't think you would like most of my collections...a little too much of PCD and Beyonce and Fergie and most of all, REGGAE :P

Let me know if you like any of those though...I'll be happy to give you a list...

But there's one song stuck on my lips right now...

Back into love (Hugh Grant & Drew Berrymore)
